Formed in 1997 with the amalgamation of three historic South Leeds clubs – Bison Sports, Brassmoulders, and Garden Gate – Hunslet Warriors originally fielded two teams at open-age as well as Under 18 and Under 16 teams
In their very first season Warriors reached the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup, going down 44 – 4 to Leigh Centurians with a spirited display. The A team also enjoyed success, winning the Alliance Championship and League Cup. Subsequent seasons saw further success at all levels in the Alliance League, Yorkshire Cup, Tetley Burton Cup and, in 2000/01 the Yorkshire League Premier Division Championship and Playoff title.
The Warriors reached the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup in 2005/06, beaten by a strong Widnes team, and in 2009/10 theywent on to win the Yorkshire League Premiership and Playoff title. That season again saw Warriors in the 3rd round of the Challenge Cup when they put up a brave display against a powerful Barrow Raiders team. They also received the Ravensport Tough tackle trophy – awarded to the amateur club with the best defensive record in the country.
After a 4 year absence Warriors’ application to rejoin the National Conference League was accepted and they took their place in NCL Division 2 for the 2010/11 season. Their potential was again demonstrated in the Challenge Cup as they lost narrowly to Oldham Roughyeds in the 3rd round. The league campaign proved successful with Warriors finishing champions of the Division and achieving promotion to NCL1 at the first attempt.
In the interim season, introduced to bridge the gap between winter and summer league arrangements 2011/12, Warriors finished top of their Division then went on to win the Grand Final against premier division outfit Wigan St. Patricks.
The 2012 season saw Warriors knocked out of the Challenge Cup in the 3rd round at Whitehaven but consolidating their position in NCL1, finishing outside the promotion places just one point behind the promoted clubs. The 2013 season saw Warriors promoted after finishing runners up in NCL1. Their 2014 season was however not successful with Warriors failing to secure their position in the Premier Division. They once again took their place in NCL1 for the 2015 campaign and finished just outside the playoff places. After 2 successive relegations they are hoping to improve on this in the 2019 season in Division 3.
The Acadamy continue to take part in the Yorkshire Mens League, while youth and junior sections also continue to thrive with teams from Under 9 to Under 15s playing in the Yorkshire leagues.
